Chapter 13 Case Filing Trends

Here's a look at Chapter 13 case filing trends in this district.

We've seen a general increase in monthly filings since the low in 2021, but the numbers are still well below pre-pandemic levels.

The year-over-year data show consistent growth: since January 2022, the number of filings each month has been higher than the number in the same month of the preceding year.

These data, however, may suggest some moderation of the growth rate. The number of cases filed in the first nine months of 2022 was almost 39% higher than the number filed in the same period in 2021. For the first four months of 2023, the increase was about 22% compared to the same period in 2022. Still growing significantly, but not quite as quickly as the increases coming off the 2021 lows.
